North West Roller Services Ltd now have the largest laser engraving facility in the UK.
In 1992 North West Roller Services Ltd began producing Laser Engraved (In the Round) Rubber Rollers, starting with one CO2 laser then onto the present day and the expansion of the new laser engraving department we have introduced three more CO2 laser engraving machines.
North West Roller Services Ltd now have the largest laser engraving facility in the UK, constantly producing laser engraved sleeves and cylinders for the Packaging and Wallpaper industry.
Engravings range from security print cylinders with engraved text thats so small its not visible to the naked eye to large embossing rollers with bold designs and deep engravings. Industry demand has led to the development of many processes in design and origination.
Overview of our ITR Laser Engraving technology.

North West Roller Services Ltd laser department is managed by highly experienced operatives boasting 30 plus years of laser engraving experience in the flexographic packaging and wallpaper industry.
Detail.
High definition engraved surface can reproduce line weights of 1 point, Text size of 0.2pt upwards, and screens of 175lpi (70lpcm) with highlight tones of 1% and engraving depths of up to 5mm.
I.T.R Continuous.
The advantage our (In The Round) laser engraved sleeves and cylinders give you is a continuous no seam design repeat print run that a plate can’t offer. This allows you to print for longer periods without the inconvenience of plate lift and printing downtime.
Lengths and Diameter.
Our lasers have the capability to engrave rollers to lengths of 3.5 meters long with a diameter of up to 20 Inches we also have the lifting ability that enables us to engrave large rollers reaching up to a tonne in weight.
Common questions we get asked about ITR Laser Engraving
Digital artwork files are programmed into the CO2 laser in a bitmap format, the rubber cylinder/sleeve is then loaded onto the
engraving bed, when in the correct starting position is established the engraving process begins.
The laser will traverse across the cylinder vaporising unwanted areas of rubber, leaving an engraved high definition replication of the artwork sent.
A halftone/greyscale is converted in to a screened bitmap image for the laser to accept.
The quality of the screened engraving depends on the resolution of the bitmap file supplied. Screen work can be engraved between a range of 65lpi being a very course screen to a much more refined smaller screen of around 150lpi.
Low tones and high tones can be engraved in a range from 2% to 98%. We are also able to engrave vignettes with a smooth transition from light to dark.
Minuscule naked to the eye engravings to large bold deep engravings are all possible on our lasers.
We can reproduce line weights of 1 point, Text size of 0.2pt upwards and screens of 175lpi (70lpcm) with highlight tones of 1% giving you a robust high definition laser engraved sleeve for multiple print length.
All engraved cylinders vary in length and diameter, our four lasers are designed to suit different size engravings. We can engrave up to 3.5 meters in length and up to 20 inch in diameter.
ITR is an abbreviation of (In The Round) meaning the engraved design on the roller repeats itself in the diameter and continues
to do so on print without any join line. Unlike using photopolymer plates that are cut and wrapped around the print cylinder creating an obvious join line our engraved rollers don’t have this and continue seamlessly to produce unlimited print lengths with no visible join.
Having a ITR laser engraved sleeve will offer you long trouble free cost effective print runs without the inconvenience of plate lift and downtime.
